Transition Year
Transition Year is a one year programme which provides a bridge to enable students make the transition from Junior to Senior Cycle. We have devised a programme which encourages the personal and social development of students. It also helps to prepare them for the Leaving Cert Programme , further study and adult and working life. Students undertaking the Transition Year Programme will undertake an intensive curriculum over the course of the academic year. This will include a 'hands on' approach in many areas. Examples of the activities and subjects that may be carried out are as follows:

Assessment
The school recognizes that assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning process – assessment and certification within Transition Year is school-based. Student will undertake continuous assessment including group work, individual presentations, projects, written and aural/oral class tests. Subject reports will be sent home after Christmas and again in the Summer. Student reflection on their own learning is encouraged through engagement with a student e-Portfolio which students must present at an end of year interview with the TY coordinator.
Certification
The overall certification of the TY option involves a Credit System where students earn credits in their subjects, activities and reflections throughout the year. They may achieve an award of Distinction (80%), Merit (60-79%) or Participation (below 60%). See sample credit system below
